SMITHSON VALLEY ARE YOUR STATE CHAMPS!

Smithson Valley defeated Frisco Lone Star 28–6 in the 2025 UIL 5A Division I State Championship on December 19, 2025 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game was a defensive battle early, with both teams struggling to find consistent rhythm on offense. Lone Star tried to establish tempo with short passes and runs, but Smithson Valley’s defense quickly tightened up. Field position and turnovers became a major factor as the game progressed. Neither team was able to create explosive plays in the opening quarter.

The first half was controlled mostly by Smithson Valley, even though scoring was limited. They opened the game with a field goal and continued to win the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Lone Star’s offense had difficulty sustaining drives, often being forced into punting situations after short possessions. By halftime, Smithson Valley held a 6–0 lead, but the game still felt within reach for both teams. The defensive intensity from both sides kept every possession important.

In the third quarter, Smithson Valley began to take control of the momentum. A key touchdown drive helped stretch the lead and put pressure on Lone Star to respond quickly. However, Lone Star’s offense continued to struggle against consistent pressure and tight coverage in the secondary. Smithson Valley’s defensive front also played a major role by limiting running lanes and forcing uncomfortable passing situations. That shift in momentum started to separate the two teams.

The turning point came in the fourth quarter when Smithson Valley scored on a defensive touchdown after an interception return. That play broke the game open and pushed the lead to a point where Lone Star needed multiple scores in a short time. Lone Star did manage to fight back with a late touchdown pass, but it came too late to change the outcome. The missed extra point after that score further sealed the final margin. Smithson Valley’s defense ultimately proved to be the difference throughout the game.

Overall, Smithson Valley’s championship win was built on discipline, defense, and controlling the pace of the game. Their ability to limit mistakes and capitalize on turnovers separated them from Lone Star in key moments. Even though Lone Star showed resilience and continued effort until the final whistle, they were unable to overcome the defensive pressure. The Rangers’ balanced approach on offense and defense allowed them to finish the season as state champions.
