Lehman Lobos Dominate Akins 41-0 in Season Opener
KYLE, TX — The Lehman Lobos kicked off their 2026 campaign with a resounding statement, completely shutting down the Akins Eagles for a 41-0 victory on Friday night.
From the opening kickoff, Lehman dictated the pace of the game, showcasing a perfectly balanced offensive attack that Akins simply had no answer for.
Saldana's Aerial Efficiency
Lehman’s offense was firing on all cylinders, led by a remarkably efficient performance from quarterback Richie Saldana. Saldana dissected the Akins secondary all night, completing 81.2% of his pass attempts for 157 yards and four passing touchdowns.
A Two-Headed Monster in the Backfield
While Saldana handled the air, the Lobos' rushing attack absolutely tore up the turf. Running back Za'Tevious Thornton was a human highlight reel, rushing for 148 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries. His explosive night was punctuated by a massive 70-yard breakaway run that left defenders in the dust.
Jayden Thomas provided the perfect complement out of the backfield, adding another 104 rushing yards on 11 carries to consistently move the chains and control the clock.
Looking Ahead
For Akins, the road opener was a tough pill to swallow. The Eagles' offense couldn't establish any rhythm against a swarming Lehman defensive front, resulting in a shutout that extends a frustrating seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Lehman (1-0) will look to keep their offensive momentum rolling next week as they pack up for their first road test against LEE on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Akins (0-1) will head back home to regroup, hosting Liberal Arts & Science Academy (LASA) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they hunt for their first win of the year.
